TREATMENT

WHAT ARE CHIROPRACTORS?

I am a GCC registered chiropractor and have 8 years experience. I receive regular referrals from local GPs

Although chiropractors are best known for treating back and neck pain, which they do very well, patients also consult chiropractors regarding a range of other, related conditions.

Chiropractic is a primary healthcare profession that specialises in the diagnosis, treatment and overall management of conditions that are due to problems with the joints, ligaments, tendons and nerves, especially related to the spine.

In the UK, the profession is regulated by the General Chiropractic Council (GCC) and it is illegal to practice in the UK without being registered with the GCC.

Founded in 1895 by Daniel David Palmer, chiropractic is a relatively ‘new’ profession, however, records dating back several thousand years from ancient Greek and Chinese civilizations refer to spinal manipulation.

Chiropractic treatment mainly involves safe, gentle, specific spinal manipulation to free joints in the spine or other areas of the body that are not moving properly.

Apart from manipulation, chiropractors use a variety of techniques including soft tissue work/massage, acupuncture, stretching, ultrasound, taping, exercise prescription and advice about posture and lifestyle.

In the UK, a chiropractor will undergo a minimum of four years’ internationally-accredited training, covering topics such as anatomy, neurology, radiography and orthopaedics.

A chiropractor’s training is extensive and chiropractors have to undertake a minimum of 30 hours yearly CPD (continual professional development) in order to maintain registration with the GCC.

  • Electrotherapy (ultrasound, etc.).

  • Cryotherapy (heat and ice treatments).

  • Impulse Adjusting Instrument (NEW)

At Corfe Mullen Chiropractor, I believe that treatment is very much a partnership between myself, the chiropractor and you, the patient and therefore, if you are unsure or not happy with a particular treatment technique, please let know so that I can put you at ease or modify the treatment accordingly.

VISITING

When you come to me for the first time, I will do a detailed assessment of your health. You will be asked for information about your current condition and also about your medical history and overall health.

Some of the questions you will be asked may not seem important, but they will help me to establish an overall picture of your health and determine whether chiropractic care is appropriate for your condition.

If I am unable to help, or if I decide that some other treatment would be more beneficial for your condition; you will be referred to your GP

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?

During your first visit, you will be required to wear a gown (in order for the chiropractor to perform a full examination). Alternatively, please feel free to bring along some shorts and a t-shirt. On subsequent visits, loose fitting clothes are recommended.

ASSESSMENT AND TREATMENT

Chiropractors use a range of techniques to reduce pain, improve function and increase mobility, including hands-on manipulation of the spine.

initial treatment and assessment is up to 40 minutes and follow ups are approximately 20 minutes....

CARE PLAN

After these assessments and tests, I will explain what is wrong and whether your condition can be helped by chiropractic treatment. If I feel that chiropractic treatment will help, I will give you a care plan, which will set out what you can expect when receiving chiropractic care, the costs of care and the treatment options that are available to you. You will also be told about exercises and lifestyle changes that can help you to manage your condition and assist with your recovery.

You will be able to ask questions so that you fully  understand what treatment is being proposed.

PARKING

Feel free to use the driveway to park on when coming to the clinic. Please be aware that there is not a waiting room and that there may be a patient who is being treated prior to your appointment.

When arriving please ring the bell on the gate and I will come and get you and show you where to come.

FOLLOW UP TREATMENT

Any additional appointments following the initial appointment, that may be required are £35.00 for approximately 20 minutes.
